An antique oil table lamp, probably dating from around 1900, with a decorative copper-alloy metal body, tall glass chimney and matching shade adorned with coloured glass cabochons and green beadwork.
The lamp retains its traditional wick mechanism and visible traces of historic use, although it has not been tested with oil and is offered primarily as a decorative antique object.
Description
The piece
This antique table lamp was originally designed to provide light through a traditional oil-burning wick mechanism.
Its shaped copper-alloy metal body combines engraved and relief decoration with a broad removable shade. Coloured glass cabochons in green, amber and purple tones are set around the shade, while a fringe of small green beads follows its lower edge.
The tall clear glass chimney was designed to surround and protect the flame. The lamp retains its original-style burner assembly and wick-adjustment wheel; however, although the wheel turns, it does not currently raise or lower the wick.
Dark residue and traces of soot remain around the reservoir and burner area, consistent with the lamp’s historic use. These signs have been left visible rather than removed or disguised.
The precise metal alloy has not been identified. Its colour and construction suggest a copper-based alloy, possibly brass, but it is described conservatively as copper-alloy metal.
Where it works best
Presented as a decorative antique object, the lamp works well on a console table, side table, mantelpiece or within a display of historic lighting and decorative objects.
Its metalwork, coloured glass cabochons and green beadwork give it a distinctly period appearance suited to Victorian-inspired, eclectic and layered interiors.

Condition
Good antique condition, with visible signs of age and historic use.
The metal surfaces display patina, tarnishing, oxidation and areas of surface wear. Residue consistent with former oil use is visible around the reservoir and burner assembly.
The clear glass chimney appears intact, without visible cracks or chips. The coloured glass cabochons are present, although some individual beads are missing from the green fringe. The wick-adjustment wheel turns but does not currently move the wick.
The lamp has not been tested with oil and is offered primarily for decorative display. Any intended use with fuel should be assessed by a suitably qualified professional before lighting.
