Description

The piece

This unusual decorative clothes hanger was handmade from wood during the 1990s and painted with a stylised male portrait.

The character is depicted with round glasses, swept-back hair, facial hair and an exaggerated surprised expression. Strong outlines and vivid red accents give the illustration a playful graphic quality associated with comic art and Pop-inspired visual culture.

The wooden silhouette incorporates the hanging hook into the figure’s hair, while the broad lower section provides space for light garments, scarves or accessories. The front is signed K.LINE in the lower right-hand corner.

Rather than a conventional mass-produced hanger, this is an individually made object in which illustration, decoration and function become part of the same design.
