Vintage Red Space Age Globe Table Lamp, c. 1970s

A compact vintage table lamp, dating from the 1970s, combining a vivid red cylindrical base with chrome-plated details and a large clear glass globe.

Its simple geometric construction and bold contrast of red, silver and transparent glass reflect the futuristic visual language of Space Age design.

Description

The piece

This vintage table lamp is built around a striking combination of elementary geometric forms: a cylindrical red base, circular chrome-plated fittings and a clear spherical glass shade.

The bulb holder is positioned within the lower section of the globe, while the reflective metal fitting introduces a mirrored accent that changes with the surrounding light and viewpoint. The transparent glass leaves the internal construction visible, reinforcing the lamp’s technical and distinctly 1970s character.

Compact in size but visually expressive, the design reflects the Space Age fascination with spheres, polished surfaces and strong primary colours. Its playful appearance also relates naturally to the Pop-influenced interiors of the period.

Where it works best

Its compact proportions make it suitable for a bedside table, sideboard, shelf, writing desk or small occasional table.

Even when switched off, the contrast between the red base, reflective metal and clear glass gives the lamp a strong decorative presence.
