The piece
This vintage pendant lamp combines simple geometric forms with carefully balanced materials to create a distinctive lighting design.
The wide red shade is made from moulded plastic and sits above a white opaline glass globe, which softens and diffuses the light. A slender chrome-plated metal ring curves beneath the shade and around the globe, introducing a delicate structural accent and giving the diffuser an almost suspended appearance.
The bold contrast between red, white and polished metal reflects the optimism and experimentation that characterised European lighting design during the 1970s. Its adjustable suspension allows the hanging height to be adapted to the room and intended placement.
The lamp retains a strong sculptural presence whether illuminated or switched off.
