Description

The piece

This striking vintage light celebrates one of the most enduring decorative motifs of the mid-twentieth century: the sunburst.

Radiating wavy metal rays surround a richly textured hammered centre, finished in a softly aged champagne-toned metal that gives the piece warmth without excessive shine. At its heart, a large white opal globe bulb diffuses the light beautifully while preserving the clean sculptural lines of the design.

Among the hammered details, the metalwork subtly recalls the traditional sun-with-a-face motif found in European decorative arts. The softly modelled forms gently suggest facial features without becoming overtly figurative, revealing an unexpected sense of expression the longer the piece is observed.
