An original vintage Wedgwood trinket dish made in England from the company’s iconic blue and white Jasperware.

Its scalloped oval form, matte blue surface and delicate white cherub relief make it an elegant example of twentieth-century British neoclassical design.

Description

The piece

This vintage oval trinket dish was produced by Wedgwood in its distinctive blue Jasperware, with applied white relief decoration inspired by classical art.

The centre features a finely modelled scene of cherubs, while delicate foliate motifs are arranged around the softly scalloped border. The contrast between the matte blue ceramic body and the crisp white ornament creates the cameo-like effect for which Wedgwood Jasperware is renowned.

The underside bears the impressed WEDGWOOD / MADE IN ENGLAND mark, supporting its attribution to the historic English manufacturer.

Where it works best

Compact and decorative, this piece is ideal as a jewellery dish, ring tray or small vide-poche on a dressing table, bedside table or writing desk.

It also works beautifully as a purely decorative object, either displayed individually or combined with other examples of British ceramics and neoclassical design.
