Description
This vintage wicker basket, attributed to Oliver Cajan, is a handcrafted storage piece made from natural plaited wicker and shaped in the form of a frog. Combining traditional basketry techniques with a playful figurative design, it reflects the enduring appeal of mid- to late-20th-century artisanal wickerwork.
Originally conceived as a functional storage container, the basket features a removable lid and a generously proportioned interior, making it suitable for everyday domestic use while retaining strong decorative presence.
Design and craftsmanship
The basket is entirely handwoven from natural wicker, shaped directly to form the body, limbs and head of the frog. Sculptural details such as the articulated legs and arms, along with applied glass eyes, give the piece a distinctive and characterful appearance.
The surface shows a natural patina and subtle tonal variations consistent with age and hand-crafted production. The structure remains sturdy and well-balanced, demonstrating the durability of traditional wicker construction.
